So I decided to start with that, using bamboo sticks from the garden center and wood coffee stirrers. I bought a pack of 2000 stirrers, which was perhaps a bit excessive… It went together surprisingly smoothly. The crane is slightly warped because the bamboo sticks were not quite straight, but who cares? The counterweight is a box filled with screws. It needed a surprising amount of weight to balance the arm.
We also made our usual float, but we got a larger trailer so it’s bigger this time:
